Home Water Filtration Systems
Why Use Home Water Filtration Systems?
Home water filtration systems can be an affordable alternative to buying bottled water but more importantly they can protect our health. Studies tell us drinking plenty of water will keep us healthy and help us maintain a healthy weight. But what if the water we are drinking is loaded with contaminants and isn’t healthy? Studies have shown contaminants in the bottled water you buy too. Home water filters can give you the peace of mind of knowing your family’s water is healthy.
Water Purification Systems – What’s Right For Your Home ?
There are two basic ways to go about home water filtration and several types of home water systems you can use to provide your family with healthy clean water.
Whole House Water Filters
The first is the whole house water filtration system or point of source system. With a whole house water filter all water entering the house is filtered. These whole house filtration systems don’t come cheap. They have their advantages but are not right for all situations. Aside from the higher price, these systems take some space to properly set up and may require a plumber to install. Not all houses will have room for a whole house filter system and for folks living in an apartment or condo they are probably not an option.
The advantages are that all the water is filtered. A whole house water filtration system can be fine tuned for your water type. This is good when dealing with hard water, sulfides and iron. Maintenance is easier because you don’t need change filters often or keep track of multiple filters throughout the house.
Point Of Use Home Filtration
The second type of household filtration system is point of use home filtration system. With this method individual filters are used. You would have a shower filter and a separate tap filter for drinking water. For most people these home water filtration systems are the cheapest and most practical route to safer water. However because these water filters are small they are limited in what they can do and need to be changed on a regular basis.
There are various types of point of use filters some are fairly simple like shower filters or faucet filters. Because this type of filter is limited by its size you should buy the best shower filter and faucet filters you can if you expect them to do a decent job. Other water filters like under sink water filters and reverse osmosis filters are more complex and can remove more impurities.
Water Faucet Filters
The faucet mount water filter is easy to install and as the name implies attach directly to your faucet. Because faucet water filters are relatively small they are best suited to remove chlorine from water without a lot of other contaminants.
Under Sink Water Filters
Under sink water filters or under counter water filters are designed to be hidden from sight. They are plumbed in between your water supply and your faucet.
Because under the sink water filters use multiple filters they do a much better job of removing contaminants than faucet filters.
In a way they are very similar to a whole house water filtration system except they only serve one location. Under counter water filters are popular home filtration choices because they offer the advantage of remaining out of sight, better filtration and less frequent filter changes
Reverse Osmosis Water Filters
Reverse osmosis filters are also designed to be an under the sink water filtration system but they are in a class of their own.
Nothing can compete with a reverse osmosis filter for water purity. They can even remove salt from salt water. Reverse osmosis filters produce water very similar to natural rain water or distilled water.
These filters are expensive but if you know you have heavily contaminated water they are your best choice to assure safe drinking water.
It should be noted that reverse osmosis filters are not free-flowing and are rated by the number of gallons per day they produce.
Home Water Filtration Is An Investment In Your Health
A home water purification system is one of the best investments you can make to protect and maintain your health. Home water filtration systems will insure that your family has a safe, convenient and reliable supply of water without the expenses and hassles of using bottled water.
